What we're about

Interested in cycling, but not sure where to start? Or are you tired of going on rides by yourself? Are you intimidated by the Lance Armstrong wannabes that are smoking past you with those tight black bottom spandex and thick calf muscles? Well have we got the group for you! If you are new to cycling or if you are a veteran of cycling we invite you to gather for weekend ride/course planning, gear talk, training tips, social outings, etc.!

Our purpose is to gear up, get on, get out, and get going, chase the wind and have fun! Who cares if the guys are faster than us, we just like to see their cool bike tights as they race by! Isn't that why we're here??

We encourage you to suggest rides and events to add to the calendar (http://www.meetup.com/Rubber2theroad/events/calendar/)!
Don't forget to check out our Message Board (http://www.meetup.com/Rubber2theroad/messages/boards/) for the latest info.

Here are some of the routes we like Route List (http://ridewithgps.com/groups/Butts-on-Bikes)

With that said, here are some basics: RSVP so the Ride Leaders know that you are coming and CANCEL if you change your mind. Show up at least 15 minutes before the ride start time, if the group is ready to depart on time they will do just that. Have a spare tube and pump to take with you on the ride even if you don't know how to use them.

Finally, fully read the ride descriptions! Call or email the Ride Leader the day before the ride if you need any help with equipment or questions about the route.

We are here to help make it fun. As always, contact any of the Organizers directly if there are any concerns.

Four Peaks in Forty Miles

Murray Scholls Town Center

The weather is great and the road beckons. It's a time trial day for the Tour de France. C'mon out and ride with me up and over Bald Peak. We can throw in as much of Mt Chehelem as you like, too! As Roy Rogers and SFY Road are besieged by the construction of River Terrace, I've created this alternative: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30595760 This 40 mile ride does have a 5 mile climb at mile 10 that does get a bit steep in places. It is also followed by 12 miles of decent descent. Ok, the descent is broken by a gentle 2 mile climb up Mt Chehelem. Average flat land speed 16 mph and we will wait at tops of climbs. If you have any questions please do call or text me at[masked] Mandatory for all riders Helmets must be worn at all times while riding. This is a requirement and not a request. Obey traffic laws and remember you’re a representative of the greater cycling community and should conduct yourself accordingly while in traffic and on the road. No Ear Buds! You need to hear your leader as well as other riders and the other road users. No distracted cycling. As with helmets, this is not a request. And if you are hearing impaired, be sure to let me know! All riders are responsible to have their ride in good working order, bring their own navigation, gps or cue sheet and bring a flat kit & spare tube on all rides. If there is an issue with proper working or lack of equipment you may be asked to sit the ride out. Please ask for help, send me your questions well before the ride, we will help!

WARNING: Cornelius Pass Road is closed over the hill, causing bad traffic. This ride will NOT start at Helvetia Tavern - Moving to North Plains "Hits the Spot" parking lot until future notice. Please park in the spots closest to Glencoe Rd to stay away from businesses. Routes? No idea, will figure that out as we go. Anyone with route suggests can post a ridewithgps link in the comments! Helvetia hill climbing ride. For people that like to climb, or think if they practiced and got stronger they *would* like to climb. Daylight savings time has begun, so this regular ride will be available every week - plan to come out and try it. Burgers & beers and talk story afterward at (a local North Plains eatery) if desired. This is a climber's ride. Distances ~20 miles with elevation gains of 2000 or more. Big Fun! (Growing to ~30 miles and 2x elevation later in the season) Regroup at the top of climbs, climb at your own pace. Route will be by consensus. Ride leader is Paul Gerlach. It's okay if you don't know these roads, let us know and we'll make sure you don't get lost. Not sure you can hang? Well, these are nice people. They won't leave you for dead, but if you're making them wait too long at hilltop regroups, you should be a good sport and make your own way back. Expect a flatland pace of 17-19. Not the right ride for you? Check the calendar for these options: • For a little less climbing at a more moderate pace, join Tom Kielty, around mid-day **************************************************** Ride leader: Paul Gerlach[masked] Meeting Point: Hits the Spot parking lot, 10355 NW Glencoe Rd. **************************************************** Pace and terrain rating.
