Corbett Hills ∞ 30 miles, 3000', Larch option (52, 5575)

Details

Start at the paved Lewis & Clark Park just east of Troutdale. There are restrooms. Roll at 9.

Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/51845888

The Corbett Infinite Loop Ride starts on 30, but we quickly leave the historic hwy in Springdale for the bucolic backroads of the Corbett hills. We could briefly detour to visit the Women's Forum (the road to Crown Point is closed these days). Next up is the fun and woodsy Haines and Brower side circuit. Then we'll visit more backroads like Deverell and Louden, before crossing 30 again to complete the ∞ with more Columbia views on Chamberlain, etc.
Maybe there will be ripe blackberries en route.

Larch addition: I'm limited for time on Thursday, but if you're not, this route also offers the option to split off and climb Larch, for anyone who is so motivated. (52 miles, 5575). A .25 mile walk to the top of Sherrard Point at the top (you may want to bring shoe covers or light sandals)

Level: Advanced - Intermediate. Not a beginner ride. You should have some good climbing rides at a steady pace under your belt. The grades aren't as steep as they would be if we were to ride some of these roads in reverse. We'll just do this loop once together on Thursday, but you're welcome to just keep going on it if you want.

12.5-14 mph average pace for this hilly no-drop ride (your average pace for flatter rides should be more than this). We'll regroup at the top of hills and a couple of other places. Climb at your own pace. Bring a layer for fun times cruising down. Guidelines for this ride are: safety, flexibility, communication.

Advise leaving your dwelling early to account for morning traffic.
Wheels rolling at 9 means arrive earlier than that to set up your bike and meet people.

Everyone must have a copy of the route on their device, printed out, or in their head. If you decide to give it a try and maybe cut out early you need to be able to find your way back to the start.

You'll enjoy this ride if: you enjoy cycling in the forest, scenic vistas, and want to practice cranking up hills, but still have time to do other things later in the day. Or, you want to train or stay in shape for harder rides.

Coronavirus rules: 6 feet social distance
