Farmington - Hagg (51mi/2700')
Details
This ride is an old go to, a staple, and I want to do it one more time. We start at Farmington Paddle Launch wheels roll at 10am. To start we head west on Farmington to Rood Bridge and Burkhalter. After crossing the Hillsboro Hwy we turn left to a short climb on Riedweg.
At mile 5 we reach Dion Vineyards, which is a good rest stop and popular for pictures. Continuing on Dober we reach Iowa Hill where we have a fast descent all the way to Forest Hills Golf Coarse. I have us taking Blooming Fern Hill to Fern Hill, which keeps us from riding Geiger both ways. This is another nice descent, but ensure you can stop at the bottom.
After crossing the TV Hwy we ride old Hwy 47 to the Lake Stop Grocery store. Here, at mile 16, there are bathrooms, water, snacks, etc. We can stop now, after we round the lake, or both. I have us riding Hagg in a counter-clockwise direction which tackles the bulk of the climbing at the start. After rounding the lake we pass by the store, this time turning right toward Gaston.
At mile 34 we reach Brown park in Gaston which is, if needed, another good stop providing bathrooms and water. From here it is the standard route we all know. Spring Hill to Fern Hill, Geiger and Lafollett, then back to the golf course we passed by earlier. On to Johnson School we cruise back to Burkhalter, Rood Bridge, Farmington, and back to the start.
Level: Speedy Intermediate. This is not a beginner ride, nor is it a racing ride.
15-17 mph average pace for this no-drop ride. We'll regroup at the top of hills and when necessary. Guidelines for this ride are: safety, flexibility, and communication.
