Halloy - A native app for a dead prototcol

by Casper Storm

A talk about building Halloy, a modern IRC client written in Rust, and why open protocols still matter in today’s world of closed platforms. The presentation covers the history of IRC, lessons learned from maintaining an open source project, and how Halloy is built using Rust and Iced.

Casper Storm is a software engineer who loves building great products, especially open source software. I also love riding my gravel bike, writing Rust, and being a dad to 3 boys.

Nighttime Adventures - exploring 3 experimental features for control flow

by Mikkel Wienberg Madsen

This talk explores 3 different experimental features available on nightly with the common theme being control flow. We will go over with what they are, how they work and possible uses they enable. We will also go over both stabilization status and possible replication in stable with either macros or other "hacks".

Mikkel is a cryptographic engineer at the Alexandra Institute with a background in CS at AU. He specializes in both application of cryptography in various fields, software security and development.

Location

This meetup will be at Danske Commodities, Kalkværksvej 16, 8000 Aarhus.

Food

We will try to have a combination of vegan and non-vegan food. If you have special needs regarding food (e.g. allergies), please forward your request to tue@rustaarhus.dk.
