AI is everywhere right now, and Rust has quietly become one of its most interesting companions. Rust's speed, memory safety and small footprint make it a natural fit for running models efficiently, on everything from servers to ordinary laptops. A growing ecosystem of Rust crates now makes it possible to load and run open-weight models directly, without Python, cloud services or API keys.

This Hack Night is about exploring that intersection. Maybe you're curious how AI models actually run under the hood. Maybe you want to see what Rust brings to machine learning, or you just want to build something fun with AI running locally on your own machine. Whatever the reason, this evening is for you.

No prior AI experience is needed, and you don't need a powerful computer. Everything we'll work with runs on a normal laptop without a GPU. Beginners and experienced Rustaceans are equally welcome, and we'll help each other along the way.

The event is part of Hacktoberfest 2026, a global celebration of open source.

Please sign up through Hacktoberfest here: https://hacktoberfest.com/fests/?fest=01a0f6ad-5401-7372-10b1-d0c9fae4e2c7

As always, we end the evening with a short show-and-tell, where anyone who wants to can share what they built.

Bring your laptop and your curiosity!
