Details
FREE ADMISSION – 1757 Ashland St., Ashland, OR. One mile west of I-5 Exit 14.
Lecture and slide presentation plus Q&A with the author.
One Balloon: Silent Attack on the American Homeland is based on a true World War II event that happened in southeastern Oregon near Klamath Falls, May 5, 1945.
KC’s aunt Elsie, pregnant with her first child, and five youths were killed by a balloon bomb, one of many, made in Japan. It was covered up and classified as top secret for several weeks.
Through the author's emotion-filled illustrations and imagining, One Balloon weaves war events and the power of the human spirit in facing them into a compelling tapestry of unexpected compassion and forgiveness.
K.C. Winters is an author, illustrator, and longtime educator whose work blends watercolor art, historical research, and human storytelling. Based in the Pacific Northwest, she is especially drawn to little-known chapters of World War Il history and the personal stories hidden within them. Her presentations invite audiences into history through image, reflection, and conversation.
