Hike Bauer Unit of Guadalupe River State Park (8.5 miles)

Let's hike some trails out at the Bauer Unit! We will hike about 8.5 miles and stop and play in the river. Pack a snack and bring at least 4 or 5 bottles of water.
If you love the outdoors and hiking near water - this park is perfect. Great photo opportunity.
This hike has many parts with no shade, it gets hot. Plan on possible getting your feet wet if you want to cool off in the water when we take a break. We recommend that you arrive at 08:00 so we can start on time.

IMPORTANT: Make your day pass reservation now and print it out so you can put it on your dashboard - https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/guadalupe-river (make sure to print your pass to put on the window of your car once you park).

This will be approximately an 8 mile hike. Wear comfortable shoes you can hike in,[[[carry plenty of water]]], and dress appropriately for the weather.

WHAT TO BRING
Required: Water
Recommended: Sunblock, snacks, insect repellent, water shoes (in case you want to wade!)

Do not go to the main park headquarters (it is 40 minutes in the wrong direction). Meet at the Bauer Unit parking lot. Put your printed day pass on your dashboard.

HOW TO FIND BAUER UNIT (AND NOT GET LOST):

STEP 1
Drive to the Valero Bergheim gas station at TX 46 and FM 3351
(Be at the Valero at least 30 minutes before the event so you have time to find the park)

STEP 2 (This takes about 20 minutes)
From the Valero Bergheim gas station
- Head north on FM 3351 for 3.5 miles
- Turn right onto Edge Falls Rd and head down about 2.4 miles
- Turn right onto Acker Rd and head down 2.2 miles
- Look for the turn off to the Bauer Unit gate on the right

WHEN YOU GET TO THE GATE
- You will know you are at the correct gate if you see the Bauer Unit state park sign to the right of the gate
- The gate will be closed (and may APPEAR to be locked)
- Open the gate by unclipping the carabiner on the chain
- Close the gate behind you. This prevents livestock from entering the park
- The Bauer Unit parking lot is about a quarter mile down the dirt road after you enter the gate.

It will get hot so bring a head cover and dress appropriately.
