The plein air and sketching community needs more people to take initiative to arrange outdoor painting events. Please consider doing so. I’ve been concentrating on my own painting practice and my events haven’t always been well attended. So I’m appealing to members to create their own events here. 👍
Background: When we meet, we get together to make art around the greater Sacramento area, sketching people and places, natural and urban.
Events usually last from one to two hours, then we sit down somewhere comfortable to share art and chat.
Sometimes we'll join up with other groups or do field trips outside the city. All participants over the age of 16 are welcome.
Bring: your own supplies: e.g. sketchbook, paper, pencils, pens or paint. A small fold-up camp stool is great for sketching. A large brimmed hat or umbrella will protect you from the sun. Dress in layers to adapt to the heat or cold. Bring a snack and drinking water.
All levels of experience or inexperience are welcome. It's all about being a part of the community and having fun. The organizer may or may not give a short demo, but typically there is no instruction. As a plus, we have some really good artists members who you can team-up with and observe.
