What we’re about
Welcome to the Sacramento Psychedelics Society! The purpose of SPS is to help like-minded people connect and get a sense of community. Please note: We do not advocate any ingesting and/or selling of any illegal substance. Psychedelics are still illegal in Sacramento, as well as in most of the nation, though this appears to be changing as a growing number realize just how powerfully healing these medicines can be for some. Please do not post pics advertising your services.

- Psychedelic Study GroupElla K. McClatchy Library, Sacramento, CA
At this meeting, we'll be discussing Chapter Two: "The Big Crisis" in Alexander Beiner’s 2023 release The Bigger Picture: How Psychedelics Can Help Us Make Sense of the World. It is not necessary to have purchased or completed the book in order to participate; we will summarize its content and use ideas from the text as prompts for our conversation.
The psychedelic experience itself has interesting parallels and relevance to our current reality or “metacrisis”, and we can draw upon the very same tools and practices that help us to effectively navigate altered states in how we make sense of and respond to the complex challenges of our time.
Alexander is an executive director of Breaking Convention, Europe’s largest and longest-running conference on psychedelic medicine and culture, and was a participant in Imperial College London’s groundbreaking extended-state DMT research.
There are a wealth of both emerging and established titles to choose from within this subject, lots of crossover with other fields of academia and the human experience, and a sometimes overwhelming volume of new essays and research continually being published. Let us know if there is any particular work you’re interested in exploring for future discussions!
Please note: This program is neither sponsored nor endorsed by the Sacramento Public Library. There is a 24 person capacity limit for the reserved meeting room, so if you know you will be unable to attend, please update your RSVP so that others have a chance to sign up.
Meeting Room Policy
- Integration CircleSeasons Coffee Roasters, Sacramento, CA
This circle is for anyone interested in integrating altered states into their everyday life, whether you have recent experiences to process or are merely curious. The intention is to orient ourselves towards growth, healing, and mutual care, deepening our relationship with self, other beings, collective, and cosmos.
We'll begin with grounding and group agreements followed by check ins and space for individual sharing. Time permitting, we may also discuss emergent themes or topic areas as a group.
Feel free to reach out at any time with questions or concerns. We encourage you to prioritize self care. Bring a notebook or something to write with if you'd like, and anything else you need to be comfortable.
As this is our first meeting planned at this location and privacy is not a guarantee, we'll see how it goes and adjust as needed.
