Sunday Run--"Johnny Cash Memorial Trail"
Details
Where Are We Headed?
Starting from Karen's Bakery, we will head through Old-Town Folsom to connect on to the "Johnny Cash Memorial Trail", which is a hilly, paved trail for about three miles.
Depending on the consensus of the group, we may choose to run the loop counter-clockwise, which means we will start with the “Johnny Cash Memorial Trail”, reach to the top of the trail overlooking Folsom Dam, run down to where they start the California International Marathon, then catch the American River Parkway Trail, and return to Old-Town Folsom for a distance of seven miles—which seems like eight miles when you add in the hills.
Sometimes we will run the loop clockwise, going directly over the Folsom pedestrian bridge, turning east on to the American River Recreational Trail, making the hair-pin turn where they start the California International Marathon, run up the hill in front of Folsom Dam, then connect on to the “Johnny Cash Memorial Trail” at the top of the hill, and head back to Old-Town Folsom for a total of seven miles—which, when taking into account the hills going in that direction, feels like ten miles.
The actual distance of either option is just over seven miles. Participants can do the course twice if it fits their training plans.
Typically, someone is there at this location fifteen minutes before the listed starting time should you want to engage in some pre-workout stretching.
