Where Are We Headed?

Running from the parking lot in front of the bakery, we will head towards Sutterville Road, catching a glimpse of the giraffes at the Sacramento Zoo, and connect to the Sacramento River Parkway Trail near the I-5/Sutterville Road exit. We may choose to head north towards Old Sacramento, possibly reaching Discovery Park, or south along the new “Del Rio Trail” that reaches almost to the town of Freeport on the Sacramento River.

This will be an out-and-back course. Distance and pace will be determined by the participants and their individual training plans.

Typically, someone is there at this location fifteen minutes before the listed starting time should you want to engage in some personal pre-workout stretching.

Where Are We Headed?

Starting from Karen's Bakery, we will head through Old-Town Folsom to connect on to the "Johnny Cash Memorial Trail", which is a hilly, paved trail for about three miles.

Depending on the consensus of the group, we may choose to run the loop counter-clockwise, which means we will start with the “Johnny Cash Memorial Trail”, reach to the top of the trail overlooking Folsom Dam, run down to where they start the California International Marathon, then catch the American River Parkway Trail, and return to Old-Town Folsom for a distance of seven miles—which seems like eight miles when you add in the hills.

Sometimes we will run the loop clockwise, going directly over the Folsom pedestrian bridge, turning east on to the American River Recreational Trail, making the hair-pin turn where they start the California International Marathon, run up the hill in front of Folsom Dam, then connect on to the “Johnny Cash Memorial Trail” at the top of the hill, and then head back to Old-Town Folsom for a total of seven miles—which, when taking into account the hills going in that direction, feels like ten miles.

The actual distance of either option is just over seven miles. Participants can do the course twice if it fits their training plans.
