Sandra Higgins is a Psychologist and Founder of Eden Farmed Animal Sanctuary, Ireland’s first vegan sanctuary. She also runs an animal rights and vegan education centre, Matilda’s Promise. One of the activities of this education centre is Go Vegan World, the largest and longest running vegan advertising campaign in the world. In this talk Sandra will discuss the reasons why veganism concerns every man, woman and child on the planet. She presents veganism through a lens of benefit and ease and discusses theories of behavioural change that help us to be vegan. Her talk will add clarity to the plethora of confusing representations of veganism in the media by bringing it back to its social justice origins. She will explore the evolution of animal life and the history of human domination of other animals. She will distinguish between the many benefits of a vegan life and the ethical reasons for being vegan. Sandra will illustrate her talk with discussion of the ads in the Go Vegan World campaign and the animals at Eden who inspire and inform her work.
