ABSTRACT
This demo showcases a virtual vehicle running Android Automotive, enabling scalable, hardware-independent development and validation of automotive software. The demonstration uses Cuttlefish as the reference virtual device and runs natively on Arm-based infrastructure provided by (GCP Axion) or locally on Linux PCs. This Arm-on-Arm setup preserves architectural parity between cloud-based development environments and in-vehicle deployment.
The virtual vehicle simulates core vehicle functions, including vehicle properties via the Vehicle HAL (VHAL). System components can be developed, integrated, and validated in a realistic vehicle context without dependence on physical ECUs, test vehicles, or proprietary hardware. The demo supports both open-loop testing, where software behavior is evaluated against predefined inputs, and closed-loop testing, where software interacts dynamically with the simulated vehicle environment in real time.
The setup demonstrates how automotive software development can be scaled across cloud environments, enabling parallel testing, continuous integration workflows, and collaboration across distributed teams. The same environment can be used on developer laptops, in CI pipelines, or in the cloud, significantly reducing hardware dependency and accelerating iteration cycles.
