ABSTRACT
New OEMs from Silicon Valley have spearheaded raising the bar with what’s possible in automotive technology using SDVs. They are designing these vehicles from the ground up, without preexisting vehicle programs. Traditional automotive companies are developing SDVs after decades of experience, existing vehicles on the road, and existing partnerships with tier one suppliers. This presentation will highlight what challenges dSPACE has seen both types of OEMs overcome, and how dSPACE can support either methodology.

BIO Ian O’Bryan - Regional Manager, dSPACE
Ian O’Bryan is a Regional Manager at dSPACE, where he helps automotive and mobility companies accelerate the development, testing, and validation of next-generation electric and software-defined vehicles. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Ian brings a strong technical background in electrification, electric machines, controls, and digital signal processing, complemented by experience working closely with engineers and technology leaders to solve complex development challenges.
At dSPACE, Ian has focused extensively on e-mobility and electric-drive applications, including battery management systems, charging communication, inverter development, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing. His work helps organizations move testing earlier in the development cycle, reproduce real-world scenarios in the laboratory, and improve the efficiency and reliability of their products.
Ian holds a degree from the University of Michigan, where he focused on DSP, controls, and electric machines. He is passionate about connecting advanced engineering technologies with practical solutions that accelerate innovation in electrification and mobility.
