Mormon Pioneer (MoPi) Trail Ride
We’ll be riding the Mormon Pioneer Trail from the trailhead by Little Dell Reservoir (park on the left side) all the way to the top of Big Mountain Pass and then back down. This out-and-back ride is just under 14 miles total with a steady, sustained climb of around 1,400 feet to the top—nothing too technical, but it’s a solid leg-burner. The reward? Gorgeous views, a smooth descent, and some good old-fashioned type-2 fun.
This is a great ride for intermediate riders with solid fitness and basic technical skills. The trail is mostly non-technical singletrack with a few rocky sections and switchbacks on the way up. The descent is fast, fun, and flowy with some tight corners and loose spots to keep you on your toes. This is an E-bike friendly ride.
Meet at the MoPi trailhead by Little Dell Reservoir at 7:30 PM, wheels rolling at 7:35.
What do you need for this ride?
- A good attitude and sense of adventure
- Night riding lights (Mandatory!)
- A well-maintained bike and helmet
- Gloves and a light jacket (temps can drop fast after sunset)
- Water and a snack for the top
- Optional: pads or protection gear for the descent
We’ll stop to regroup at key points and hang out at the summit before turning back. The ride back down is a blast, but please ride within your limits—there are some fast sections and the trail can get loose.
Post-ride hangout: Bring a chair and a beverage if you want to chill at the trailhead after the ride. I drive a charcoal Tesla so you can spot me.
