Lefthand Canyon to Ward
Details
Let's strap on those climbing shoes.
We will meet at 7:45am for an 8:00am departure. Parking is along the north side of Lefthand Canyon Dr. and just west of 36. Choose any spot you want. Lefthand Canyon Dr. will be halfway between Lyons and the north end of Boulder. The Greenbriar Inn is on the SW corner of Lefthand and 36 (do not park in this lot).
It is a total of 16.5 miles up Lefthand to Ward and 3500 feet. The last 1.5 miles is a real challenge (it has about 400 vertical feet of climb). The picture included is just above Ward on the way to Brainard Lake (just providing incentive to all). If you wish you can stop before the final climb at Sawmill Rd, or anywhere else you choose. If you stop at Sawmill Rd it is 15 miles up and approximately 3100 feet.
This climb is a constant vertical incline. No rest for the weary. Oh, but the descent is the best I have ever done (brakes are optional). Smooth road all the way down.
Expect the weather in Ward to be about 15-20 degrees cooler than where we begin. Weather calls for a chance of rain beginning in mid afternoon. That is why we want to start early, along with avoiding the other 100-200 bikers on the ascent.
Lunch/food will be afterwards in North Boulder. I will update this will times and location before Saturday.
