Chinese New Year Parade - San Francisco!
Details
Join me for one of the top ten parades in the world and the biggest parade outside of Asia celebrating the Lunar New Year! (The actual Chinese Lunar New Year falls on Tuesday, February 17th this year, which is the Year of The Fire Horse). The plan will be to meet at the Millbrae BART station at 2 pm, and catch a train into the city. I don't have a specific itinerary other than to explore Chinatown and grab a bite to eat before the festivities begin. We did this a couple years ago and it was a lot if fun exploring Chinatown and getting a bite to eat at the bakery prior to attending the parade.
When: Saturday, March 7th. Chinese New Years Parade runs from 5:15-8pm
Where: Chinatown, San Francisco. We will be taking public transport.
How to Find us: Let's meet at the Millbrae BART station at 2 pm. Exit the parking garage on the third level, walk towards the Platform entrance turnstiles. I will be standing by the first ticket kiosk (circled in red in photo).
General plan: Let's catch the 2:33 northbound train into SF. This should give us plenty of time to explore Chinatown and the surrounding area before the parade kicks off. We can get off at Montgomery or Powell, and then walk to Chinatown from here.
What to Bring: Clipper card (you can also purchase a Clipper card at the station if you need to), it's San Francisco in February so bring warm clothing, rain gear (just in case), boots, jacket.
Hope to see you there!
David
Before the parade begins: A Google Maps link to one possible walking route we could take to explore Chinatown that begins at the Dragon Gate and runs counterclockwise to form a 1.1 mile loop:
