Welcome to the San Diego Backgammon Club's Meetup Page! Nice to have you here! We aim to provide players of all levels the ability to play the oldest board game in the world...backgammon, which is a super fun, exciting, and easy to learn board game.
We welcome players of all levels the ability to learn the basic rules of the game and to participate in relaxing tournaments in the atrium at Embassy Suites by Hilton San Diego La Jolla (Address: 4550 La Jolla Village Dr, San Diego, CA 92122). However, please make sure to check our website's calendar, at https://sandiegobackgammon.com/calendar/.
Everyone will be able to play at least two matches with a consolation bracket for first round losers. Matches are 7 points in the main bracket and 5 points in the consolation bracket. Clocks are mandatory (12 seconds per move with 14 minutes of reserve time for each player), with use of the doubling cube and the Crawford Rule. A tournament primer can be found here: https://sandiegobackgammon.com/play-primer/ .
$20 entry fee (100% return to the prize pool). Optional side pools will also be available.
We run a traditional knock-out style tournament each Wednesday with registration beginning at 5:00 pm continuing to 7:00 pm, with details here https://sandiegobackgammon.com/tournament-details/ .
Depending on interest, players who are less experienced with open tournament rules have the option of playing in a separate division with 3 point matches in the main bracket and 1 point consolation matches.
The events are run by the directors and board members of the San Diego Backgammon Club which is comprised of volunteers. Free lessons are available 30 minutes prior to the start of each tournament.
Many players don't RSVP on Meetup, however, we're a very active club which averages in excess of 30 players a week!
