What we’re about
NEW CLUB ALERT!
KUNGALOOSH! To all who come to this happy group: Welcome to the San Diego Society of Explorers and Adventurers! Also known as S.D.S.E.A.
The world seems to get crazier on a daily basis. Often wherever we turn our heads we're bombarded with negativity whether on social media or what news is trending on current events (even within the House of Mouse). This club strives to be a place free from all that drama with our Disney passion as the foundation for the glue to bind us.
Our hope is to gather like-minded kindred Disney spirits together on a monthly basis for in-person social outings and events. Local events will usually be in coastal San Diego. We may have an occasional movie night of some Disney classics or corny Disney Channel movies, a beach/bay BBQ, or hike at Torrey Pines, but more often than not it will be a trip to our home park: Disneyland (you don't have to be an Annual Passholder / Magic Keyholder but it helps!). We will often piggy back on larger events at the Disney Parks, some of which offer opportunities for cosplay or themed attire (Dapper Day, Oogie-Boogie Bash, Late Nite Special Events, D23 Expo, etc.), but of course jaunts to Disneyland with no specific occasion in mind will also occur. This is NOT an online or virtual group. It's a place for Disney friends to connect in-person.
Although Disneyland will be our primary park, there will be opportunities throughout the year to visit Disney World especially during the Halloween and Christmas seasons. We also are planning to shoot for one big event annually such as an international trip like Tokyo Disneyland or maybe a Disney cruise with Castaway Cay as a stop or possibly Aulani in Hawaii.
Sounds fun, huh? So leave politics, drama from current events, and all negativity at home and instead please bring your optimism, your sense of humor, and share your fervor for all things Disney. So do you wanna build a snowman or what?
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Star Wars Days and Nites - May the 4th and Revenge of the 5th / 6thDisneyland Park, Anaheim, CA
May is quite a month at Disneyland for a Star Wars fan. April 16 - May 9 there's Star Wars Nite. May the 4th falls on a Saturday this year and reservations are hard to come by, however, the surrounding dates are available. Depending on demand, there may be club activities this Star Wars themed weekend.
- Tiki Oasis (tickets and room blocks go on sale April 10th 6PM PST)Town and Country San Diego, San Diego, CA
UPDATE: Tickets and room blocks go on sale April 10th 6PM PST! If coming from out of town you may want to snag a room. They rent out the entire property so only attendees will be staying there.
Tiki Oasis is the largest and longest-running festival in the world for lovers of Island lifestyle and purveyors of Polynesian Pop. The theme changes every year and takes place in early August at the Towne and Country Resort in Mission Valley. The theme for 2024 is: WESTERN.
The reason we're including it as an event is due to a handful of symposiums often dealing with material that falls under Disney Tiki (Jungle Cruise, Tiki Room, Trader Sam's, etc.). "Dr. Skipper" Marley has spoken in the past. Symposiums are all cafeteria style add-ons (often with an additional fee but some are FREE). For the most part you will need a wristband just enter the Towne and Country during the event. The only exception is when the Marketplace is open the public (I believe this is only Sunday afternoon but don't quote me on that).
The event is really one of a kind and can be discussed in further detail at a future meetup.
- D23 Expo 2024Anaheim Convention Center, Anaheim, CA
Join us for D23 Expo 2024! Latest scheduled updates here!
We will discuss this event in more depth at a future meet-up but for now mark those calendars! For those who haven't it's a good idea to go ahead and secure, or at least start thinking about, lodging if staying for the entire duration of the event. Closest hotels to the Convention Center are the Hilton and Marriott (at the Convention Center) but there are less expensive options within walking distance (Residence Inn, Clarion, etc.). However, it is important to note Disney is mixing things up this year by holding some of the larger events at the Honda Center ("The Pond" for those Mighty Ducks fans). Disney will also be having an event at Angel Stadium on August 4th for any baseball fans.
For those who are into cosplay S.D.S.E.A. would totally be up for a group cosplay ideas!
More to come as we approach this event so stay tuned!
