Bachata Lab

💃🕺 Bachata Lab is San Francisco's Friday night home for Bachata: a weekly class and practice social at the Smuin Center for Dance in Potrero Hill. Three levels run at the same time, beginner, intermediate and advanced, so there's a class for you whether it's your first night or your hundredth. We focus on Bachata Moderna and Bachata Sensual, and bring in visiting artists for workshops from time to time.
How Friday runs
- 8:00 PM: doors open and everyone warms up together with footwork and body movement
- 8:30 to 9:30 PM: the room splits into three classes for partnerwork
- 9:30 PM to 1:00 AM: the floor opens for a supervised practice social
No partner needed
Partners rotate every 90 seconds or so, and most people come alone and dance with a dozen different people in the hour. If you've been wanting to try Bachata but didn't know where to start, this is the night.
Tickets
- Class and social: $20 booked ahead on Eventbrite, or $25 at the door
- Social only: $15 either way, arrive from 9:30 PM just to dance
- Pay at the door by Venmo, PayPal or Zelle
Good to know
- Adults only
- Wear anything you can move in, with non-scuffing shoes; the studio has a beautiful sprung ballet floor
- No term commitment: you pay for the nights you come, and move up a level whenever you're ready
