They say in San Francisco you are never more than 10 minutes away from a public park. That's certainly true for the neighborhoods along Upper Market Street. On this walk we'll visit three neighborhoods known for their parks- Mission Dolores, Duboce, and Buena Vista. We'll go along, rather than through these parks to discover the beautiful neighborhoods that surround them. Filled with timeless homes, fun art, and amazing views, these neighborhoods each have their own charm and style.

WE LEAVE AT 6:00 ON THE DOT from the corner of Market and Dolores. We meet at the California Volunteers Monument there, which is the statue at the outcrop along side Whole Foods. Please do not block their entrance or take up all the seating while you wait.

This hike takes us up and down several hills and stairways, and is mostly along quiet city streets. There is one short restroom stop at Duboce Park, but we won't be stopping for any other breaks (except to ooh and ahh, of course). The walk should take about 2 hours, and ends one block away from our starting point. It may be getting dark for the last portion, but we will be on well-lit streets by then.

GETTING THERE: Market and Dolores is a major intersection and should be easy to find. Parking is neighborhood and can be difficult, especially as people are coming home from work. You might be tempted to park in the Whole Foods or Pet Food Express lots- don't do it. They tow. For GPS, use the Whole Foods at 2001 Market Street as your reference.

BY PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: Market and Dolores is one block away from the Church Street Station of the MUNI Underground served by lines K (Ingelside), M (Ocean Beach) and S (West Portal Shuttle). Above ground, Lines F (Market), J (Church), L (Taraval), 22 (Fillmore), and 37 (Corbett) all have stops on the corner. The N (Judah) is a block away at Church and Duboce and the #33 (Ashbury) stops about 3 blocks away at 18th and Dolores.

ATTENDANCE: Space is limited - please only RSVP if you intend to come. No shows, late cancels, and place-holdings are noted and can be cause for removal from the group. This walk is only available to City Steps members.

DOGS-Well behaved and socialized dogs are always welcome on my walks. This one is mostly on city streets, so there won't be many play opportunities. Dogs must remain on-leash except in designated areas.

SAFETY- You are responsible for your own safety at all San Francisco City Steps events. Your "yes" RSVP indicates that you have read and accept the liability policy that can be found at the bottom of every Meetup page.
