Up and Down and Around Valleys, Heights, and Hills.

Noe Valley, Dolores Heights, Eureka Valley, and Liberty-Hill are all neighbourhoods that circle around upper Castro. These charming residential areas have lovely examples of beautifully cared for pre- and post earthquake era cottages and homes on tree and garden-lined, art-filled streets. Oh, and hills. Lots of hills. Let's explore them on an early evening walk before sunset.

We meet at the NOE VALLEY TOWN SQUARE, on 24th Street between Vicksburg and Sanchez in Noe Valley. This open plaza is surrounded by murals and is a peaceful respite in a busy commercial area. WE LEAVE AT 6:00 ON THE DOT. Please arrive a few minutes early to use the famous million-dollar restroom (or,there's one at Whole Foods, about a block away) and check in.

This walk has multiple up or down stairways, and more than a few steep streets. It is along city streets and stairs- cement or pavement the entire route. It should take about 2 hours. We will walk at a steady but moderate pace, stopping to catch our breath and the views. We walk in a loop, so we start and end in the same place. There is no restroom or snack break on this walk. Please plan accordingly.

GETTING THERE: 24th Street is the commercial corridor for Noe Valley. Your best bet for parking is likely a residential side street.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: The J (Church) streetcar and bus #48 (Quintara) stop at the corner of 24th and Church. Bus #24 (Divisadero) stops 3 blocks south at the corner of 24th and Castro. The 35 (Eureka) is a couple of blocks farther at 24th and Douglass. 24th/Mission Street BART connects to the #48, or is a good 10-15 minute walk.

DOGS: Well-behaved and socialized dogs are always welcome on my walks. This one is a lot of hills and stairways, along city streets. They must remain on leash at all times.
