Wandering through The Presidio at Twilight

Details

Let's take a stroll around the Presidio after work. Enjoying the sights and sounds of nature and the bay breeze will refresh and energize us. Will we have sunshine? Fog? Wind? Blue skies? Possibly a bit of everything.

We meet at the side of the Presidio Fire Station. From there we'll stroll across the landscape through Tunnel Tops, Lovers Lane, The West Pacific Grove, The Ecology Trail, and The Tennessee Valley Watershed. We'll stop by the The Presidio Chapel, The D-Day & Korean War Memorials, The Presidio Promenade, The Redwood Grove, and Paul Goode Field (restrooms).

We start walking at 5:30 PM ON THE DOT. Be sure to arrive a few minutes early to check in and use the restroom at Tunnel Top. The hike should take just about 2 hours. We walk at a steady but moderate pace. There's a bit of up and down but none too strenuous or long. There is one steep uphill stairway. We will be walking mostly on dirt paths, plus a bit of sidewalk, and one section is through a grassy field. We walk in a loop.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:
MUNI line #43 (Masonic) stops at The Transit Center. The free Presidigo Shuttle starts downtown and brings you right to us. It ends at 7:00, so you may have to find a different route back. Buses #28 (19th Avenue) and #30 (Stockton) each has a stop about 5 blocks away at Richardson. The #45 (Union) stops at Lyon/Baker, just outside the Lombard Gate. Each of these is about a 10 minute walk to our starting point.
DRIVING: The Fire Station is adjacent to the Main Post Parade Ground. It can be accessed by the Lombard or Arguello Gates, although the Presidio Slow Street Program makes that a bit round-about.
PARKING: There is free parking in The Presidio, but it's not nearby-expect a 15 minute walk. The Main Post has paid parking until 6:00, at $3 an hour so that would be my suggestion.

ATTENDANCE: This is a fun and easy group, but we take our attendance policy seriously. Late cancels, no-shows, and place holding can lead to your removal from the group. Crashers and guests will be turned away. If your plans change, please update your RSVP. If you are on the waitlist, you have a much better chance to be added if you answer the RSVP question (You do not have to answer this question if you are already on the " Going" list).

DOGS: Are always welcome on my walks. Presidio rules require that they be on leash. Some trails may be closed due to coyote pup season-you will have to find your own detour. Dogs are never permitted off leash on sidewalks next to roads. The park is home to multiple coyotes--- Make sure your dog stays by your side at all times.

SAFETY- you are responsible for your own safety on all City Steps walks. Please be sure that this walk falls within your physical capabilities. Walking with a group brings its own risks. Please take a moment to review Meetup's policy of Liability, which can be found at the bottom of every Meetup page.

WHAT TO BRING:
Dress for the weather and wear comfortable, sturdy shoes.
Bring water and extra for your dog
If you bring a snack, it should be one you can eat while walking, as we won't be taking a meal break.
Bring your camera
Bring your sense of camaraderie, adventure, and fun.

The walk will end just as the sun is setting over the bridge. If the weather is clear, why not stay at the vista point and enjoy this golden moment.
