City Lights and the Holidays

San Francisco shows off her beauty with wonderful light displays for the holiday season. On this walk, we'll view the city from the Embarcadero, Nob Hill, The Wharf, and the waterfront.

We'll meet at Robert Frost Plaza at the corner of Drumm and Market, next to the Hyatt Regency WE START WALKING AT 5:00 PM ON THE DOT. We'll head straight up California for a view of downtown from Nob Hill, Huntington Park, the Fairmont, and Grace Cathedral. Then we head down the hill through Chinatown, and North Beach to the holiday tree at Pier 39 (restrooms). We'll hear rather than see the sea lions, then walk along the waterfront, past the lighted boats, and with the view of bay bridge to guide us, return to our starting destination and the Regency's annual Winter Wonderland Display. The walk should take about 3 hours, with break time.

The walk has one steep uphill (California Street) and a few smaller hills, some up some down. We walk at a steady but moderate pace, taking time to enjoy the views and the sights.

Getting there: The plaza is at the corner of Drumm, Market and California which is an access point for Embarcardero Station MUNI and BART line. The F line and bus #2 come to the corner. Driving is not recommended. Parking is expensive and downtown holiday traffic can be trying.

DOGS: Dogs are always welcome on my walks, but this one won't be much fun for them. It's along city streets at night, so they'll have to be on leash the entire time. Also, you won't be able to pop in to the indoor areas at the hotels and churches we pass.
