Photo realist painter, Robert Bechtle, is "a native and lifelong resident of the Bay Area, Robert Bechtle focuses on the things he knows best, such as family, cars, houses, and neighborhoods. In doing so he turns what seem to be ordinary scenes of middle-class American life into paintings." — SFMOMA

[Keep looking here for any updates or message me through Meetup App].

Bechtle had lived on Potrero Hill and painted scenes of his neighborhood. A few of his paintings actually shows the street names. We will begin our photowalk at Thinker's Cafe near the corner of 20th and Arkansas and then find and photograph the places he actually painted in and around Potrero Hill (mostly on 20th Street). We will make our way east toward Dogpatch to Standard Deviant brewery, a new hangout near Pier 70.

To visually see what he saw when he painted you would need a longer focal length to compress the scene. So bring with you an 85mm to 135mm lens (for small format). Or bring a 140mm to 200mm (for medium format).

I recommend a little research on the artist by going to the following link and checking out his work:

Watch the 6 videos in the artistic process as told by the artist himself.

We'll end at Standard Deviant to quench our thirst.

Let's be safe. The walk is about a mile so wear confortable shoes, stay hydrated, and carry light.
