TALK ABSTRACTS:
*** Anthony Davanzo - Where are the clouds? Do I need an umbrella?
We have many complex products that can be difficult to understand especially if you're not in the industry. This talk shares 2 comparisons for understanding Terraform: Blueprints for Factories and DNA.
*** Kaslin Fields - DevOps via Terraform: Learning the Tools to Manage your Infrastructure as Code
If DevOps is about bringing developers, operations folks and skillsets closer together, then the tools we use must enable that shift in responsibilities and culture. Perhaps one of the greatest examples of this is Infrastructure as Code - defining and maintaining infrastructure architectures in an automated, repeatable fashion via programming. The most popular tool for this purpose today is HashiCorp's Terraform. With its extensibility and open source nature, Terraform has become the standard for implementing Infrastructure as code across cloud platforms - especially in multi and hybrid cloud scenarios. When Oracle build its cloud, it saw the value its customers placed on Terraform’s flexibility and openness and decided to enable customers to take advantage of Terraform’s unique capabilities. Through demos and use-cases, we’ll explore how Oracle customers are using Terraform to make their DevOps dreams into reality.
*** Chris Griggs - Terraform Provider Development Program
What is the process to create an official Terraform provider?
*** Sunil Sabat, BigID - Moving to Terrafrom Deployment model from Native Docker Deployment
In this talk, let us discuss how to migrate current plain docker Yaml files to Terrafrom format so that you can support multi-cloud and hybrid deployments, both in house and customer environment. Reason is customers are finding huge value in Terraform like multi-cloud deployment framework. The Docker provider was used to interact with existing Docker containers and images. It uses the Docker API to manage the lifecycle of Docker containers. Docker provider uses the Docker API, it is compatible not only with single server Docker but Swarm and any additional Docker-compatible API hosts. Building a robust Terraform template is not guaranteed to be 100% success in first attempt. We can get there by following best practices discussed in this meetup.
