Details
We will be doing an intermediate level one-way hike along a segment of the Bay Trail in San Francisco, starting from the Ferry Building to Heron’s Head Park in Bayview, then continuing into the Mission. This hike is for INTERMEDIATE HIKERS only. The 9.0 mile route will offer many unique views of San Francisco’s industrial central waterfront, as we pass through Mission Bay, Crane Cove Park, Dogpatch, and India Basin on our way to Heron’s Head Park. After exploring Heron’s Head Park we will head into the Mission via Potrero Hill.
THIS EVENT HAS A WAITLIST. DO NOT SHOW UP FOR IT UNLESS YOU HAVE RECEIVED AN EMAIL SAYING YOU CAN ATTEND. NO PLUS ONES ARE PERMITTED ON THIS HIKE.
We meet at 10:00 am outside the Ferry Building on The Embarcadero and depart promptly at 10:15 am. We begin the trek by heading south along The Embarcadero into Mission Bay where we pick up Terry Francois Boulevard to Crane Cove Park. After a brief stop in the park, we continue south along Illinois Avenue to Cargo Way, which will lead us into Heron’s Head Park. We will spend some time exploring the park and taking a break for lunch and the restroom. Afterwards, we will head northwest along Cargo Way into the Potrero Hill area. We will cross Route 101 on the pedestrian overpass at 22nd Street, leading us into the Mission and our destination at 21st and Folsom Street. From there you can easily walk a few blocks to the 24th Street BART Station, but it is likely some of us will head to Southern Pacific Brewery near 19th and Folsom Streets.
Bring water, snacks and/or lunch. Dress for the weather.
