Ferry Building - Mission Bay - Mission Hike - 7.0 miles, 500 ft elev

We will be doing an intermediate level one-way hike in San Francisco, starting from the Ferry Building to Mission Bay, then continuing through Potrero Hill into the Mission. This hike is for INTERMEDIATE HIKERS only. The 7.0 mile route will offer many unique views of San Francisco’s industrial central waterfront, as we pass through Mission Bay, Bayfront Park, and Crane Cove Park as we will head into the Mission via Potrero Hill.

THIS EVENT HAS A WAITLIST. DO NOT SHOW UP FOR IT UNLESS YOU HAVE RECEIVED AN EMAIL SAYING YOU CAN ATTEND. NO PLUS ONES ARE PERMITTED ON THIS HIKE.

We meet at 10:00 am outside the Ferry Building on The Embarcadero and depart promptly at 10:15 am. We begin the trek by heading west to do the quarter-mile loop through the beautiful gardens of Salesforce Park. Next we go south along The Embarcadero into Mission Bay where we take Terry Francois Boulevard to the recently-opened Bayfront Park and Crane Cove Park. After a brief restroom stop in Crane Cove Park, we turn west to Potrero hill, stopping at the Potrero Hill Rec Center for a snack and restroom break. Continuing west down Potrero Hill we head for 18th Street, traversing the crooked Vermont Street and McKinley Square along the way. We then cross route 101 on the pedestrian bridge into the Mission and our final destination at 18th and Folsom Streets. From there, it's about a 5 minute walk (6 blocks) to the 16th Street BART Station. However, some of us will head to Southern Pacific Brewery (at 19th St and Treat Ave).

Bring water, some snacks/lunch and sturdy shoes. Dress for the weather.

Level: Intermediate level. You will be expected to hike an average of 2.5 to 3.0 miles per hour.
Total Distance: 7.0 miles.
Elevation Gain: 500 feet.
Hiking Time: 3.0 hours plus stops.
Weather: Rain cancels, but we hike in intermittent showers.
Pets: Dogs/cats are welcome to come along, but not allowed in Salesforce Park (you can wait downstairs for 10 minutes).
Restrooms: At the Ferry Building (mile 0.0), Crane Cove Park (porta potty, mile 3.9), Potrero Hill Rec Center (mile 5.3), and bar or BART station (mile 7.2).

Directions
The meeting spot is outside the Ferry Building on The Embarcadero, below the clock tower. From The Embarcadero BART Station walk east one block. The 14 Bus and N Bus also stop close by. The 38/38R Bus stops a few blocks away at the Salesforce Transit Center.

From our destination in the Mission you have the following public transportation options to return to the Ferry Building:

• BART at the 16th and Mission Streets Station.
• The 14 Bus at 16th and Mission Streets.
• The 12 Bus at 20th and Folsom Street.

Paid parking available at Four Embarcadero Center.
