Glen Canyon - Grand View - Sunset Hike - 7.5 miles, 1,200 ft elev

We will be doing a moderately strenuous urban hike in San Francisco starting at the Glen Park BART Station and ending in the Sunset district near Golden Gate Park. This hike is for INTERMEDIATE HIKERS only. The route will offer magnificent views of the city as we wind through Glen Canyon Park, Laguna Honda, Grand View Park and Golden Gate Park. The 7.5 mile trek will involve ascending 1,200 feet via several challenging hills and staircases, including the Aerial Way and Encinal Walk. After ending the hike anyone interested is welcome to join the group for drinks and food at a local bar (probably Temple Bar) in the Sunset district.

THIS EVENT HAS A WAITLIST. DO NOT SHOW UP FOR IT UNLESS YOU HAVE RECEIVED AN EMAIL SAYING YOU CAN ATTEND. NO CRASHERS AND NO PLUS ONES ARE PERMITTED.

We meet at 10:00 am outside Glen Park BART Station and depart promptly at 10:15 am. We begin the trek by heading north through Glen Canyon Park on the Islais Creek Trail, continuing on into Laguna Honda via the Steep Ravine Trail. Next, we head west to Golden Gate Heights, stopping by the Murphy Playground to use the restroom and have an early lunch. We continue west to Golden Gate Heights, turning north to head up the near vertical Aerial Way steps before ascending Grand View via the Encinal Walk. Continuing north, we pass through the Sunset into Golden Gate Park, heading around Blue Heron Lake. Finally, we turn south and exit the park in the Sunset, finishing the hike at 9th Avenue and Irving Street .

Bring plenty of water and lunch/snacks.

Directions
Take BART to the Glen Park Station. We will meet just outside the station near the intersection of Diamond and Bosworth Streets.

From the Inner Sunset: Take the 44 Bus from 9th Ave and Irving St to return to the Glen Canyon BART Station. To head downtown, take the N Light Rail at 8th Ave and Irving St.
Parking: Glen Park BART Parking Lot on Bosworth St.
