SUNDAY HIKE: Angel Island Fast/Slow(er) Hike: Option for 6.0 or 7.5 miles
Details
We will be doing a hike around the beautiful and historic Angel Island, the largest island in the San Francisco Bay. This event will consist of two groups from which to choose:
Group A (led by DR and ET) is for Advanced Hikers Only. You will be expected to hike an average of 2.5 to 3.0 miles per hour. The trek will involve ascending 1,200 feet via steep paths over 7.5 miles. The route will offer wonderful views of San Francisco Bay and the surrounding areas as we wind up and over Mount Livermore (787’) and along Angel island’s Perimeter Road. From the top of Mt. Livermore we will enjoy 360-degree views stretching as far north as Napa county and as far south as San Jose. We will connect with Group B for a lunch and restroom break near Fort McDowell.
Group B (led by Ted) is for those who wish to hike at a slower pace on an easier route. This group will depart from the same location and ascend 600 feet over 6.0 miles. The route will offer scenic views of San Francisco Bay and the surrounding areas as we hike along Angel Island’s Perimeter Road, exploring historical structures along the way. We will connect with the other group for a lunch and restroom break near Fort McDowell.
We meet at 9:45 am at the Ferry Building/GATE C (or sometimes B) to take the 10:15 am Golden Gate Ferry to Angel Island. Transportation time to Angel Island is 30 minutes. We will return on the 3:20 pm ferry, arriving at the Ferry Building at 3:50 pm.
THIS EVENT HAS A WAITLIST. DO NOT SHOW UP FOR IT UNLESS YOU HAVE RECEIVED AN EMAIL SAYING YOU CAN ATTEND. NO CRASHERS ARE PERMITTED AS GROUP SIZES ARE LIMITED IN STATE PARKS.
