Mission to Peaks, Heights and a Canyon Hike - 7.5 miles, 1400 ft elev
Details
We will be doing a moderately strenuous urban loop hike starting from Mission Dolores Park in San Francisco. The trek will involve ascending 1,400 feet via staircases and steep paths over 7.5 miles. This hike is for INTERMEDIATE HIKERS only. There will not be a sweep, so you will be responsible for keeping up with the group. The route will offer magnificent views of the city as we traverse Twin Peaks, Bernal Heights and Glen Canyon. We will end the hike near a bar/restaurant in the Mission (close to the starting point, probably Southern Pacific Brewery at 19th and Treat Ave).
THIS EVENT HAS A WAITLIST. DO NOT SHOW UP FOR IT UNLESS YOU HAVE RECEIVED AN EMAIL SAYING YOU CAN ATTEND. NO CRASHERS AND NO PLUS ONES ARE PERMITTED.
We meet at 10:00 am outside the restroom at the northwest corner of Mission Dolores Park (near 18th and Church Streets) and depart promptly at 10:15 am. We begin the trek by heading west along 19th Street to ascend Twin Peaks via Twin Peaks Boulevard. Next, we turn south to head down into Glen Canyon to hike the Islais Creek Trail. We will pause in Glen Canyon Park to take a break for food and the restroom. From there we head east along Diamond Heights Boulevard, down the hidden Harry Street Steps, then onto 30th Street leading us to Bernal Heights. After a quick pause at the top of Bernal Heights Hill to admire the view, we continue into the Mission along Folsom Street to 20th Street where we will end the hike. From there we will walk to a nearby bar/restaurant, although those who want to return to the starting point can walk 10 minutes north along 20th Street to Dolores Park.
Bring plenty of water, snacks and/or lunch if you plan to eat at Glen Canyon Park.
