Virtual Ukulele Rebellion 89! Celebrating the British Invasion!

Details

This year is the 60th anniversary of the British Invasion, which officially launched in February 1964, when the Beatles first appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show and then took America by storm. The Beatles' success in America opened the floodgates for other British acts.

According to Wikipedia: "The British Invasion was a cultural phenomenon of the mid-1960s, when rock and pop music acts from the United Kingdom and other aspects of British culture became popular in the United States with significant influence on the rising 'counterculture' on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. UK pop and rock groups such as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Who, the Kinks, the Zombies, Small Faces, the Dave Clark Five, The Spencer Davis Group, Herman's Hermits, the Hollies, the Animals, Gerry and the Pacemakers, the Searchers, Them, and Manfred Mann, as well as solo singers such as Dusty Springfield, Cilla Black, Petula Clark, Tom Jones, and Donovan, were at the forefront of the 'invasion.' " Wikipedia lists the dates of the British Invasion as being from 1964 through 1967. You can read more about the British Invasion here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Invasion

Please volunteer to lead your favorite British Invasion song(s). We'll play music from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm Pacific Daylight Time. To assist you, here's a video of one person's opinion of the top 100 British Invasion songs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JePp3yw2FiQ

Many British Invasion songs are included in the Daily Ukulele book, the Daily Ukulele Leap Year Edition book, and the Groovy Song Book.

The Zoom link will appear on this page when you RSVP. If Zoom asks for a passcode, the passcode is always Rebellion. The passcode is case-sensitive.

If you'd like to lead a song, please let me know, either by posting here in the comments or by email, which song(s) you would like to lead. The cut-off time for requesting to lead a song is THE TUESDAY BEFORE THE MEETING (for this meeting, Tuesday May 21, even if you're going to be leading a song from one of the Daily Ukulele books. I'll post a songlist here in advance of our meeting.

IF YOU'D LIKE TO LEAD A SONG USING SHEET MUSIC OR A CHORD CHART THAT ISN'T IN EITHER THE YELLOW BOOK OR THE BLUE BOOK, EMAIL THE DOCUMENT TO ME IN DIGITAL FORMAT IN ADVANCE SO THAT I CAN UPLOAD IT TO DROPBOX AND POST IT ON THE SCREEN FOR OTHERS.

PLEASE NOTE: To accommodate all first song requests, we may not have time to get to all second (or third) song requests. When asking to lead more than one song, please indicate your first and second choices to ensure that, if we can't get to your second request, the song you'd most like to lead is included in that evening's song list. Thank you in advance for your willingness to lead songs and your understanding about how the song list for each meeting is prepared.

You can reach me by email at sfukerebellion@yahoo.com
