Japanese Woodworking Introduction

Details

This event has been changed to an online event, due to the organizer being in Japan on the day. The starting time has changed, hopefully this still works out for many of the attendees.

This is an introduction to the Japanese woodworking hand tools.
I will explain the tools, wood characteristics, and technique on Japanese hand tools (pull saws, chisels, planers, and others).
We will also explore the art of wood grain.
I am a weekend woodworker, and took woodworking classes instructed by Japanese furniture carpenters for a couple of years on cutting joineries using only traditional Japanese tools, including markers, saws, chisels, and planers. I also had a few chances on participating cutting joineries at a renovation site of a traditional old house.
A lot of duplications on the topics covered in the past events, but this introduction looks to be still good for new members. I hope this is going to be a great chance to know more in the Japanese woodworking and surrounding cultures. I am planning to have an in-person event in June including hands on experience, and also to get to know other local enthusiasts!
