Under the guidance of Heather, you’ll explore this unique practice that combines the spontaneity of improvisation with the discovery of shared physical dialogue.

Contact Improvisation is far more than a dance technique—it’s a philosophy of movement that celebrates the natural intelligence of the body and the beautiful complexity of human connection. In our classes, you’ll discover how to create a seamless conversation through touch, weight-sharing, and mutual responsiveness, all while maintaining the highest standards of safety and consent.

What to Expect in Class
Each Contact Improvisation class with Heather is carefully structured to build skills progressively while honoring the improvisational nature of the form. Classes typically begin with individual warm-up exercises that help you connect with your own body, find your center, and prepare for the shared exploration ahead.

Solo Preparation: We start by developing what Contact Improvisation practitioners call “the small dance”—the subtle, constant adjustments your body makes to maintain balance and respond to gravity. This foundational awareness becomes the basis for all partner work and helps you develop the sensitivity needed for responsive dancing.

Partner Exercises: Gradually, we introduce simple partner exercises that teach the fundamental skills of weight-sharing, following points of contact, and maintaining connection while moving. These exercises are designed to build trust and communication skills while developing the physical techniques that make more complex improvisation possible.

Come and immerse yourself in the world of Contemporary Fusion Dance. This is an all-levels movement class for dancers looking to expand their knowledge in contemporary dance.

About the class: The first half of class is dedicated to warm up and exploration. We will warm up together with group combinations and contemporary exercises intended to make you sweat and get your body ready to move. The second half of class is dedicated to learning choreography and embodying it to music. Phrase work in this class draws from Erin’s experiences with contemporary, release, improvisation, Gaga, physical theater and floor work techniques.

This will be an inclusive, all levels non-judgemental space to listen to your body, connect with your breath, and embrace the thrill of moving bodies.

Join us for our exciting “Thriller Workshop” at the Motion Arts Center located in the heart of downtown San Mateo! You’ll learn the iconic choreography to Michael Jackson’s classic hit, led by hip-hop instructor Jonathan (JP).

This fun, spooky workshop is open to all skill levels. Zombie costumes are encouraged but not required!

OPTIONAL MINI-SHOWCASE
Want to perform at the end? We’ll open the floor for those who want to share the combo all together or in small groups—cheered on by a supportive room.
