Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is an awareness practice of attending to the way we use language, both in speaking and listening and the meaning we make of what others do or say, especially when they express blame, pain and anger.
Incorporating NVC into our worldview involves learning to connect to the deep longings and values that lie within our own and others' words, thoughts, and actions, as well as learning what core beliefs and habits of behavior and speech impede connection.
As we learn to translate our own & others' judgments, blame & criticism into unmet needs, we aspire to develop more choice and compassion, instead of blaming others for the strategies they might use to express distress.
This class includes not only awareness practices from NVC, but also from the teacher's experience of mindfulness & zen practices, Cognitive Behavorial Therapy (CBT), Byron Katie and more.
For example, Mindfulness practices are an experiential tool to train ourselves to pay attention to what is actually occurring, as opposed to being jerked around by our judgments and fears, thereby deepening the intellectual tools of NVC.
This is an 8 week class, not a drop-in practice group.
January 13 - March 3; 8 Mondays; 7-9 PM PST
Enrollment will close after the first 2 classes.
