San Diego River in Mission Valley
T + C Park, Riverwalk Dr, San Diego, CA, USThis hike will be on WEDNESDAY to take advantage of the MTS free ride day.
We'll be hiking about 3.7 miles of the San Diego River Trail in Mission Valley. There are no hills, but there is one stairway. The San Diego River Park next to Snapdragon Stadium is now open, and we will hike through it on the Ben & Nikki Clay San Diego River Trail. We will return on the San Diego Trolley.
The San Diego River Park was opened about a year ago, and some of it is still unfinished. It has rest rooms, a playground, and lots of paths. It does not have river access. The San Diego River is fenced off and concealed by vegetation.
We did this walk one year ago, on a Tuesday. For details, see www.meetup.com/sandiegodayhikers/events/303698593
Where the trail doesn't yet exist, we will switch to the sidewalks on nearby streets.
We'll meet at 9:30 AM and start at 9:45 AM in the little T+C Park on Fashion Valley Road at Riverwalk Drive, near the Fashion Valley Transit Center Trolley Station (N 32 45.909 W 117 10.220). We'll go upstream on the north side of the river to the Fenton Parkway Trolley Station. We'll enter the San Diego River Park there and hike across it to the Mission San Diego Trolley Station on the other side. Then we'll all pile onto the trolley for the trip back to Fashion Valley. Since this will be an MTS free ride day, we won't have to fiddle with the ticket machines.
The Trolley runs every 15 minutes.
The starting point is reachable on the Green Line Trolley and on several bus lines. (All will be free on October 1.) There is plenty of parking.
Leashed dogs are allowed on the trail, but not on the trolley.
If you want a shorter hike, you can end your hike at any intermediate trolley station and take the trolley back to the starting point.
Since this hike is on paved paths and sidewalks, hiking shoes are not required. Wear good walking shoes. The path is fairly level, except for a stairway (and wheelchair ramp) just west of Qualcomm Way.

Manchester Preserve Hiking Trails, Encinitas, CA, US3.8 miles, 500ft ascent.
Hazards - 100ft of narrow trail with steep drop-off - also a detour around. 2 short steep hills.
Description:
A fun set of popular trails in the Manchester Preserve.
It was established in the late 1990's by Techbilt, a prominent development firm in Southern California. Techbilt then chose a nonprofit conservation organization to own and manage the preserve. Since then, The Center for Natural Lands Management (CNLM) has owned and managed the Preserve.
While hiking Manchester Preserve, visitors can expect to encounter wildlife, both common and threatened. Look closely and you might see the endangered California Gnatcatcher bird or multiple other species of birds. The trails are popular among bird watchers!
The wildflowers at Manchester Preserve are stunning, especially in spring. Visitors come from far and wide to see the towering flowering stalks of the chaparral yucca. The ground is often covered in multicolored wildflowers, and hikers will also encounter prickly pear cacti, sunflowers, colorful hyacinths, forget-me-nots, purple phacelia, and fire red monkeyflowers, among others species. We previously hiked here 11/21/24. https://www.meetup.com/sandiegodayhikers/events/311289876Meet at 9:30 AM at the end of Calle Ryan.
