There are three signed entrances to Daley Ranch in Escondido. We'll start at the largest one, next to Dixon Lake, and hike up to the summit of Stanley Peak. There will be about 800 feet of elevation gain, with some good views along the way and from the summit. The round-trip distance should be about 6 miles and the hike is moderately strenuous. We've done this hike three times before, but we started at a lower trailhead, so the hike was significantly harder. For details, see

We'll meet at 9:00 AM at the Daley Ranch entrance at the north end of La Honda Dr. in Escondido (N 33 9.99 W 117 3.15) and step off at 9:15 AM. The entrance is across the street from Dixon Lake, which has rest rooms.

Notice that this hike is on FRIDAY. Thursday is Bike to Work Day, so I will be biking somewhere on Thursday morning. Accessible hike trailheads do not have secure bicycle parking, so a bike-to-hike is not feasible.

SUGGESTED ROUTE FROM SAN DIEGO: Go north on I-15 and exit at El Norte Parkway (after Hwy 78). Follow El Norte Parkway about 3.2 miles east and turn left into La Honda Dr. Follow La Honda Dr. steeply uphill to the entrance to Daley Ranch. The parking area is on the left.

Wear good hiking shoes and layered clothing, use sun protection, and take water. Take a camera if you wish. No lunch stop is planned, but you can take a snack. We will rest at the peak.

Leashed dogs are allowed.
