Jerabek Park South
Details
A 3.61-mile loop through the canyons and open spaces of Scripps Ranch, starting and ending at Jerabek Park. Hilly in many places, but no mountains to climb. About a half mile is on sidewalks.
We've done this hike before on July 22, 2021. For details, including some photographs, see www.meetup.com/sandiegodayhikers/events/279570587. That was a 2.61-mile hike. This time, we will add a one-mile loop called the Giant Grove Trail that I have only recently discovered.
This hike overlaps another hike which starts and ends at Jerabek Park. It does not overlap the Doctors Loop hike, but it comes very close at one point.
Leashed dogs are allowed.
Meet at 9:30 AM in the parking lot in Jerabek Park, 10150 Avenida Magnifica in the Scripps Ranch neighborhood of San Diego (N 32 54.615 W 117 4.959). At 9:45 AM we'll step off.
SUGGESTED ROUTE FROM SAN DIEGO: Go north on I-15 and take the exit for Miramar Road and Pomerado Road. Go east approximately two miles on Pomerado Road, and turn left (north) on Avenida Magnifica. Jerabek Park will be on your left, about a half-mile north of Pomerado Road. If the parking lot is still closed, park on the street and walk into the park.

The trails are mostly hard-packed dirt, but with some steep and rocky places. Wear good hiking shoes and suitable clothing. Hiking poles will be helpful in a few places. Use sun protection. There is some shade in the canyons, but most of the trees are eucalyptus trees, which do not have dense foliage.
No lunch stop is planned, but you might want to take a snack. Drinking water and rest rooms are available at Jerabek Park. You may want to picnic in the park after the hike.
