Pacifica Adventures (ADV-Intermediate / 13-15 miles / 2300-2600 ft / C+ pace)
Details
Explore Pacifica with me on some medium-challenging trails. I have NOT ridden all the trails in this route, so it's going to be an adventure! Hope we get some clear weather.
We meet at Gray Whale Cove parking lot at around 9:20. Wheels roll at 9:30. Come early, as the parking lot is quite popular. There is no signal at the parking lot, so send those "I'll be late" messages early.
Route: Starting with a climb that delivers us to a steep descent named after a striking spotted toadstool. We will then climb again for the kinder version of a famously difficult 1600-meter descent, with an optional scouting mission afterward. Our final climb will lead us towards the scenic Old Colma Road and down to our starting point.
Difficulty: High Intermediate. Expect steep, narrow trails with lots of roots, ruts, rock gardens, and lots of exposure. Not for people who're afraid of height.
Pace: C+. We regroup at every intersection and take it easy on the climbs and descents. I'll ride an EMTB at an analog-friendly pace.
Bring:
- Wind jacket
- Helmet
- Water and snacks
- Trailside repair tools
- A well-maintained bike.
Guest riders are not allowed; this ride is for WCMB members. If you have a guest, please have them join. Liability etc. Thank you.
NOW THE NITTY GRITTY...
West Coast Mountain Bikers is a group riding community. We don't encourage individuals to come out to our rides that want to do their own ride five minutes after starting with us. We start together and stick together.
If you are new to our group, please take a moment to read our Ride Rating Guide, available at the link below.

All of our rides require a helmet and properly maintained mountain bike.
Riders should be sure to read the description of the ride fully prior to their RSVP. Rides will vary by location and organizer, so be sure to sign up for rides that are appropriate for your skill and fitness level. If unsure if an event is appropriate, contact the event host prior to the event. If you have an existing medical condition please consult your doctor prior to joining an event.
Meetup.com and West Coast Mountain Bikers do not allow minors to attend events. We will occasionally make exceptions, so long as the parent is also in attendance.
The event host and organizers ultimately have the last call on who can and cannot attend a particular event. When a members safety is concerned we will always err on the side of caution.
