Amtrak Coastal Sightseeing Tour

Take a scenic, low-stress train ride from the SF Bay Area to as far as Los Angeles. Optional stops include Salinas, Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Oxnard, etc. This will be the modern Coast Starlight line. It offers iconic views of the California coast.

This event is a one-way southbound ride. You have to make separate plans for layover at any destination you pick.

Route & Timing
The full ride from San Jose Diridon (SJC) to LA takes about 11 hours (10:26 AM–9:11 PM). View the Amtrak website to see what time it gets to the earlier stations. Choose your stop — the trip is flexible.

Where to Meet
Board at San Jose Diridon Station. According to schedule, the train will arrive at 10:14 AM if it's on time, departing at 10:26 AM. Please board promptly. We’ll gather on the train. You can walk between cars.

How to Find Us
We can use Google Location Share for temporary GPS. Requires a smartphone and Google account. Optional: Zello walkie-talkie app for live group chat. Optional: WhatsApp chat beforehand.

Getting to San Jose
Event Organizer Ken will arrive on a different Amtrak train (Capitol Corridor line). Welcome to join earlier — we can coordinate with location sharing.

Onboard
Grab food in the Cafe Car (Sightseer Lounge with scenic views), or bring your own. Restrooms lower level. Bikes allowed ($20 extra). Relax, play board games, enjoy the vistas — midweek trains are usually light.

Booking
Use Amtrak’s app or website. Mobile tickets accepted for boarding, but print a backup just in case.
