An afternoon push up the front-side fire road toward Millard Falls, winding through a shaded, oak-lined canyon with a few small creek crossings along the way. Steady climbing with canyon views, then a payoff at the falls. It is a favorite with mountain bikers, so we keep our ears open and share the trail.

ROAD TO TRAILHEAD: Fully paved residential street. Any vehicle.

PARKING
📍 We gather at the top of the street in the cul-de-sac.
🎫 Free street parking on El Prieto Rd. No forest pass needed on the residential street.
⏰ Busy with bikers on weekends, so get there a few minutes early to grab a spot and regroup.

BATHROOMS
🚻 No restrooms at the trailhead or on the trail. Go before you arrive.
❌ Nearest facilities are back in Altadena, nothing once you park.

BRING
💧 Water: 2L recommended. Partially shaded, but warm in the exposed stretches.
🥢 Trekking poles, handy for the rocky sections and creek crossings.
👟 Water shoes, optional, the crossings are low or dry this time of year.
🩱 Bathing suit, optional, only if you want to cool off at the falls (light flow in summer).
🧴 Sunscreen and a hat, long stretches of open fire road with little shade.

HEADS UP
🥨 Bring a snack, it is over 4 miles with steady climbing.
🐕 Dogs OK on leash. Rocky sections are hard on paws, and at ~90°F direct sun it may be too warm for some dogs (max ~85°F). Pack water for them.
🚴 Heavy mountain-bike traffic, especially weekends. Stay alert, step aside for downhill riders, skip the headphones.
🌿 Poison oak is present year-round in the canyon. Stay on trail, long pants help.
💦 A few small creek crossings, mostly dry rock-hops this time of year.
