Enjoy a vintage silent movie with live musical accompaniment by keyboardist Michael Mortilla. This week's movie is the 1926 classic "The Son of the Sheik" starring Rudolph Valentino. The film is presented in the courtyard next to the visitor center.
"The screening marks the 100th anniversary of Valentino's
final film - released just weeks after his untimely passing
at age 31 on August 23, 1926. A sequel to one of his
earliest starring roles, Valentino appears in a dual
performance: both the Sheik and his son, who wrestles
with his devotion to a young dancer he believes has
betrayed him. Join us in celebrating one of cinema's most
magnetic and influential performers."
Please note that, since this film is 100 years old, there are some racially insensitive elements that would not be displayed in modern films.
We will meet at 6:30 in the parking lot to get good seats as it is first come first served. (Bring a jacket to place on your seat) We can check out the visitor center, then take a walk around the grounds and have a snack before enjoying the show at 8:00p.m. If you arrive after 6:30 you will see the seats that are reserved for our group saying "SEATS SAVED FOR SANTA MONICA HIKING CLUB"
Unfortunately because this event is being sponsored by Hollywood Heritage Foundation and not King Gillette, no dogs are being allowed at this event. We love our fuzzy furry friends but we are unable to have our beloved friends at this one. Thanks for understanding.
