Fun and laughter followed along with the scrambling and spinning of dice with the occasional grumble of how lucky your opponent was at throwing their lucky dice rolls. Nowadays, people don't always find the time to play face to face and the unfortunate result is playing backgammon online in from of a screen and questioning whether the dice rolls are rigged or not. We usually meet every other Sunday at 3pm, and you’d be very welcome to join us.
A warm welcome to everyone - whether you’re an experienced player or just keen to learn and improve in a relaxed, social setting.
Sapphire Backgammon Social Group has now been running for 11 years - our first Meetup was held in June 2015, and we’re approaching our 450th event, with membership nearing 2,500 and still growing.
We’re a well-established and friendly group with regular attendees of all abilities, from complete beginners to seasoned champions! It really doesn’t matter what level you are or how competitive you feel - we aim for an easygoing, sociable afternoon that often drifts into the evening.
Occasionally, we run light-hearted tournaments with small prizes for those who enjoy a bit of competition. Some members have even discovered the mysteries of the doubling cube along the way.
We attend both the Civil Service Club and Gest Restaurant & Bar - though sometimes we try other venues.
If you can, please bring a backgammon board, though we only need one board between two players. It’s always a pleasure to see the variety of boards people bring along and to meet the players behind them.
We ask for a £4 contribution to help cover Meetup costs, as the platform isn’t free for organisers.
