What we’re about
Scenic Kayaking . . .
as in kayaking the scenic rivers, lakes and coastal routes of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Maine . . .
This kayak group is for persons over 21 years old and older.
Kayak gear: we encourage members to have a Kayak as there are few chances to rent kayaks at our events. Kayaks need to be a a minimum length of 10 feet or longer, no folding kayaks, and no inflatable kayaks, or sit-on-top or peddling kayaks allowed.
Only those with a clear, updated photo showing their face (no sunglasses, hat, ski goggles, too far in the distance, other people in the photo, or photo too dark) will be approved to join the group. This is so we will recognize you at the meetup events, and, show(unhide) your meet up interests and groups (click on “unhide your interests and groups from others” in your Profiles section).
Per club policy, no pets allowed, and no guests please. Have your guest join the meet-up group (and be approved ) so that they can agree to the liability release and attend an event.
Where we paddle: The meetup locations will primarily be within a two hour driving range (North/South/East/West) from the vicinity of the Boston area.
Kayak Gear: We recommend you bring your own kayak and related gear, as most of our paddle events do not have kayak rentals on site). You can also rent a Kayak for the day (from EMS or Charles River Canoe and Kayak). Wearing a Coast guard approved PFD on all kayak events is required. No sit-on-top or inflatable or folding kayaks allowed.
Meet-up costs: We do not charge member fees, nor do we have sponsors (yet) who help pay the organizer’s meetup’s annual fee (which runs about $380 a year). However, if members would like to help contribute towards the cost of the organizers annual fee to meetup.com, we will cheerfully accept voluntary donations. To donate: We accept cash at the event, or you can make a donation via Venmo. My Venmo is @Heidi-1225
Wait list Queue; members who have made a donation to the group are given priority when being moved up to the RSVP list. In addition; to ensure the safety of the group, (and based on the member ratio of the event), the event host has the discretion at times to prioritize which members get moved up from the waitlist (rather than the waitlist queue being based on date/ time that the member is on the waitlist).
Donations are nonrefundable, and will remain with the group and be used to fund annual organizer’s meetup.com fees or for the groups safety gear, etc.
PLEASE DO NOT DISCUSS POLITICS as we have members with all kinds of strong opinions - this is not the place for that. Be courteous to everyone and the Organizers who take the effort to list events.
Other: Generally, everyone is responsible for carrying /portaging their own kayak to and from the water (unless other people offer to help). Note; its not fair to expect people to randomly help.
Entire inactivity of more than 1 year (not even visiting our page once a year sitting at home!) may lead to exclusion of your membership.
The importance of keeping this a friendly and healthy united group when doing activities together:
Members are expected to be civil, show respect and dignity to fellow members, and to follow our safety guidelines (note; if a member doesn’t show good behavior or if the person is not healthy emotionally, and it’s consistent (chronic, not acute), then this group is not a good fit for them).
We are also open to any kayak meetup ideas that you might be interested in. We look forward to having fun and meeting you all!
