Bisley Bluebells & Wild Garlic 5 mile walk
Details
Have you ever wanted to skip through fields of bluebells, and roll in wild garlic to avoid encounters with vampires? Well now is your chance!
We will start from the village of Bisley and head south-west down the valley, taking in the views as we go. About 15 minutes in we encounter our first wild garlic, with that unforgettable aroma that wafts up from the valley floor to meet us. As we descend into Hawkley Wood, the tree canopy provides just the right cover and shade for the undergrowth to put on a show for us. Garlic, blue bells, white and yellow flowers… all is on display for us as part of this beautiful walk. We head down to Toadsmoor Pond before crossing the stream then beginning the long but fairly gentle climb back to Bisley to complete this 5 miler with a total ascent of about 270m.
If it has been wet in the week prior, please expect some mud in places. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing for the conditions and please bring a snack and a drink.
We meet outside The Bear pub on George Street, GL6 7BD at 10:15am for a prompt start at 10:30am (Google Maps link: https://goo.gl/maps/1exqBscgvNMc2dBt8). There is parking right along Stroud Road and George street, so park where you can and wander down the road to meet us.
After the walk we are planning to have a drink and possibly a late lunch (if still available) at The Bear Inn at 1:30pm. A lovely village pub serving good food and a great selection of good ales, lagers, ciders, wines, spirits and soft drinks.
There is a £2.50 charge for this walk payable via PayPal richadwivedi@gmail.com (please use friends & family option and add ‘Bisley’ as a note on your payment) or for bank transfer, pm for details. Some of this collection will go towards Meetup admin costs, and the rest to our foodbank fund.
