What we’re about

Welcome to the Screenwriters of Hollywood. Our group is focused on cold reads and critique for Screenwriters of all genres.

We are a diverse group of writers, actors, directors and producers who meet to read scripts, get honest feedback, and improve our craft. We learn to be good collaborators. We invite other working professionals to visit and share their expertise and path. We support each other's projects by attending premieres, readings, and events together.

Meetings:
Meetings are every Monday night from 7-9pm PDT. All meetings are currently virtual via Zoom. We go through 3 scripts a week through screensharing. Each writer is given 40 minutes. The recommendation is 10-15 pages followed by feedback.

Membership:
We have put together some questions to get to know those applying to join us. Please be thorough with your answers and if you have any questions don't hesitate to contact the organizers here on MeetUp or on our Facebook Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/566139007196355

Scripts:
New members must attend two meetups before bringing a script to the group. No first drafts, and before your first script is read it must be submitted to one of the organizers. If you are not sure about script format, if you are writing in English and it is not your first language, or if you think you need a copy editor (that's a person who looks for typos, misspellings, and other grammatical errors), have one of the group members take a look before you ask for a table read. You want us to concentrate on dialogue, character and plot, and not trip over format, spelling and grammar so we are happy to help.

Notes:
After each script reading, we take turns giving notes. The writer only listens. When it is your turn to give notes, speak about what worked and/or what didn't work for you as an knowledgeable audience member. Pitching brief ideas or jokes is okay. We are not here to re-write, only offer feedback. We are here to get the best stories written. Each story is unique, each screenplay is unique, each writer's process is unique and our group respects that.

Joining the Group:
After you have filled in our questionnaire and been accepted, we encourage you to reach out to one of our organizers. You do not need to have anything prepared for the meeting, just a willingness to learn, help, and introduce yourself to the group. We look forward to the opportunity to work together and build community as writers.
