About us
Established in 2009, we are a dynamic group of professionals that view State College as a great place to call home. It's no secret that State College is a transient town. We understand it can be difficult to socialize and feel close to the community. SCYP creates a welcoming environment for all young professionals. We may be a group young professionals, but at heart this is a organization to socialize. Our members are typically between the ages of 22 and 45, but we do not have an age requirement. If you are young at heart and have a passion for our area, you're welcome...no encouraged...to join!

No matter what brings you to the State College area, we are one community. At SCYP, we believe in being active and involved in making our community a better place. We volunteer and fundraise with a passion and energy for everyone living in Happy Valley.
Work
Everyoneโs favorite subject! Chances are you might have moved to State College for a new job or potentially graduate school (thatโs work, right?) We get it. We work here, too! SCYP provides a year-round forum for young professionals to connect, collaborate, and learn from each other. No matter your profession, together we build a foundation upon which State College can build its future.

Life canโt be all work โ We have some fun along! State College has an abundance of opportunities to kick back, relax, and have fun. Whether you are settling down or passing through, we may be colleagues and neighbors, but most of all, we are friends.Whether itโs on the softball field, at a happy hour, or volunteering, SCYP offers events to meet new people and make new friends.

SCYP Trivia @ Voodoo Brewing
Voodoo Brewing Company, 201 Elmwood Street, State College, PA, USVoodoo Brewing Co is hosting trivia, so join us for a fun night! This is a Voodoo brewing Co event but SCYP board members will be arriving early to reserve seats. There will NOT be a check-in table, but weโll let you know where we are in the event discussion.

Union Cemetery Tour
Union Cemetery, E Howard St, Bellefonte, PA, USJoin the State College Young Professionals (SCYP) for a tour of historic Union Cemetery in Bellefonte. This is a public event (which SCYP will be attending) for Bellefonte Civil War Weekend. While the tour begins at 6pm, please arrive at the Cemetery by 5:45pm. SCYP attendees are encouraged to travel early to find parking in downtown Bellefonte and walk to the Cemetery.

โUnion Cemetery in Bellefonte is one of the oldest cemeteries in Centre County and the resting place of many of the countyโs early notable leaders.โ
โThe 2026 Union Cemetery tour during Bellefonteโs Civil War weekend will include about a dozen of the Civil War soldiers buried on its grounds. The only repeats from last yearโs tour will be Governor Andrew G. Curtin, General James A. Beaver and Medal of Honor recipient George W. Harris. The tour will last about one hour and will be the same each day of the weekend. Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather as we will go rain or shine. If the weather is very hot, please bring your own water and stay hydrated.โ
Tour guide bio: โW. Charles Young (Chuck) received his B.S. in Secondary Education and B.A. and M.A. in History from The Pennsylvania State University. He is also certified by LaSalle University to teach Advanced Placement U.S. Government and Politics. He spent 35 years in public education as a teacher, building administrator, and District superintendent. He has had a lifelong passion for local history and military history, particularly the American Civil War. He has been active since his early twenties with several community historical groups. He was a founding member of the Central Pennsylvania Civil War Roundtable, a life member of the Roland Curtin Foundation, a former member of the Bellefonte Historical and Cultural Association, and a former board member of the Bellefonte Cemetery Association. He is also a member of The American Battlefield Trust, The Central Virginia Battlefield Trust, and the Antietam Institute. He has been published in the Instituteโs Antietam Journal and BHCAโs The Bell. He is currently researching several topics for further publication.โ

SCYP Volunteer: Spring Creek Park Cleanup
Spring Creek Park, Houserville, Pa, Houserville, Pa., State College, PA, USEnjoy a weekend day outside with a good deed by helping keep Spring Creek Park one of the best parks in the area at our spring clean-up! Volunteers will help by picking up litter, maintaining planting beds and walkways, trail cleanup, and many more activities supervised by the Centre Region Parks & Recreation (CRPR) staff. SCYP is an official Park Partner through CRPR.

Help your community out, spruce up the park, enjoy nature, and hang out with some other SCYP members! Non-members are encouraged to participate.
**We will meet in the MAIN parking lot area accessed from the entrance off Houserville Road.
**Be sure to bring water and work/gardening gloves. We have a few pairs of gloves we can lend to volunteers. Please wear a SCYP shirt if you have one to help represent SCYP as we work to make the park beautiful! If you don't have a t-shirt, we'll be giving out legacy SCYP T-shirts to volunteers (sizing is limited).

May Sips @ Axemann Brewery
Axemann Brewery, 2042 axemann road,, Bellefonte, PA, USMay-be youโll join us for our next Sips?! State College Young Professionals is hosting our next monthly Sips Social Wednesday May 6 at Axemann Brewery in Bellefonte from 5:30 โ 7:30 pm. Sips is a chance for you to meet new people, catch up with friends, and learn about upcoming SCYP events. Group appetizers will be provided to be shared using your entry fees/membership dues. Bring your friends or co-workers with you! We hope to see you there!
Not a member? Just want to join us for a night? Stop on by! Non-members may attend Sips for $8. Participate in a Sips and youโll get a chance to meet with current members and board members to see what SCYP can offer you. By the end of Sips if you would like to become a member, your entry fee will go towards your membership.
