About us
Established in 2009, we are a dynamic group of professionals that view State College as a great place to call home. It's no secret that State College is a transient town. We understand it can be difficult to socialize and feel close to the community. SCYP creates a welcoming environment for all young professionals. We may be a group young professionals, but at heart this is a organization to socialize. Our members are typically between the ages of 22 and 45, but we do not have an age requirement. If you are young at heart and have a passion for our area, you're welcome...no encouraged...to join!

No matter what brings you to the State College area, we are one community. At SCYP, we believe in being active and involved in making our community a better place. We volunteer and fundraise with a passion and energy for everyone living in Happy Valley.
Work
Everyone’s favorite subject! Chances are you might have moved to State College for a new job or potentially graduate school (that’s work, right?) We get it. We work here, too! SCYP provides a year-round forum for young professionals to connect, collaborate, and learn from each other. No matter your profession, together we build a foundation upon which State College can build its future.

Life can’t be all work – We have some fun along! State College has an abundance of opportunities to kick back, relax, and have fun. Whether you are settling down or passing through, we may be colleagues and neighbors, but most of all, we are friends.Whether it’s on the softball field, at a happy hour, or volunteering, SCYP offers events to meet new people and make new friends.

Trivia @ Red Horse Tavern
Red Horse Tavern, 104 N Main St, Pleasant Gap, PA, USJoin the State College Young Professionals for a fun night of trivia at Red Horse Tavern on Tuesday, August 25! Check-in begins at 6:30 PM, and we'll grab seats together before trivia gets underway.
Trivia is hosted by Red Horse Tavern, but SCYP board members will arrive early to reserve seating. There will not be a check-in table, but we'll post our location in the event discussion so you can easily find the group.We especially encourage new and prospective members to join us for this casual, small-group event!

September SCYP Social
Big Spring Spirits, 198 Match Factory Place, Bellefonte, PA, USLate Summer? Early Fall? Either way we're headed to Big Springs! State College Young Professionals is hosting our September SCYP Social at Big Springs Spirits' Bellefonte location on Wednesday September 2nd from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. We hope you'll join us at this unique location in the historic Match Factory by the beautiful Talleyrand Park.
SCYP Social presents you the chance to meet new people, catch up with friends, and hear about SCYP's upcoming events and open board positions. If you're new in town for the school year, know that about 30 friendly faces will be there to welcome you to the area. Shared appetizers will be provided using your entry fees/membership dues. Bring your friends and co-workers with you! We'll see ya there!
Not a member? Just want to check us out for a night? Stop on by! Non-members may attend SCYP Social for $8. There you'll get a chance to meet with current members to see what SCYP is all about. By the end of the social if you would like to become a member, your entry fee will go towards your membership.

Paleobotany Lab Tour
Deike Building, 123 S Burrowes St, State College, PA, USJoin The State College Young Professionals for a tour of the Penn State Paleobotany Lab led by Ph.D. Candidate and Paleobotany expert Eddie Spagnuolo. The tour will include both the preparation lab, where dirt and sediment are removed from fossil specimens after collection in the field, and the imaging and analysis lab. You will see state-of-the-art fossil preparation and imaging tools, practice how to prepare fossils and learn about some of the palaeobotanical research being conducted at Penn State. You will learn about the importance of fossils as a tool for modern conservation efforts and see fossils from across the world, including Indonesia, Vietnam, Pakistan, Australia, and the United States.
