SCYP Volunteer: YMCA Anti-Hunger School Backpack Packing

Come join us in helping pack backpacks for local students in need! We will join a group of Penn State students on campus for their regular Tuesday packing event. The event end time is variable depending on the number of volunteers as we have a goal number of backpacks to pack, but is often less than 2 hours.

Centre County YMCA’s Anti-Hunger School Backpack Program distributes over 1,500 backpacks each week to our county’s public schools. Local students enrolled in the Backpack Program receive a backpack each Friday (or final day of the week) during the school year to ensure students have enough food to eat over the weekend. Each backpack contains breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack for Saturday and Sunday. You can learn more about the Anti-Hunger program here.
