Scuba & Camping Weekend at Two Harbors, Catalina Island.
Located on Catalina’s west end, Two Harbors is a mere 22 miles from the Southern California mainland. This rustic village sits on a narrow strip of land that separates Isthmus Cove on the leeward side of the island from Catalina Harbor on the windward side.
Getting There: Make your own reservation on Catalina Express Ferry. I will be departing San Pedro Friday 10:00 am, returning Sunday 4:15 pm ferry.
Campsite: I have reserved campsite TH 01 (8 people capacity, $40 per night per person). A friend also has the campsite next door for more room.
Camping Gear: I will be bringing my own camping gear (i.e. sleeping bag, air mattress, outdoor blanket and tarp; I don't use a tent). You can rent from the Catalina Island or Ken Trapp (818-522-4991) has some loaner gear. I don't use a tent; I sleep under the stars or a tarp, if it looks like rain.
Food: buy groceries from Two Harbor's General Store or eat your meals in town. I will be eating most all my meals at the campsite; backpacking freeze-dried meals & groceries. Two ultra-light propane backpacking stoves will be available to use.
Scuba Gear: I will be bringing my own gear and weights, except a tank. Rentals are available at the Two Harbors' dive shop.
Kayaks: I will be renting a kayak to transport scuba gear and get air refills.
